Quarter final results:
Daniil Medvedev (3) (Russia) defeated Andrey Rublev (10) (Russia) 7-6(6) 6-3 7-6(5)
Medvedev didn’t face a break point all match, but was down three set points in the first set tie break, before winning the final five points. The third seed then achieved the sole break of serve in the match in a second set where he hit 14 winners and lost just 3 of 23 points on his serve.
The third set tie break also was Medvedev’s, taken on his first match point.
Dominic Thiem (2) (Austria) defeated Alex de Minaur (21) (Australia) 6-1 6-2 6-4
Thiem opened proceedings smartly with the first two games, then threw in a scrappy service game, for de Minaur to break back. That was the Aussie’s only game won for the first set. However, de Minaur was in with chances. He had deuce in the fourth game where he dropped serve. He had four break points in the fifth game, none of which he converted. He had two game points on serve in the sixth game, before wasting them and eventually dropping that.
In set two, de Minaur’s first two service games were to love, and he took Thiem to deuce twice in the second game. He led 40-30 in the fifth game, but let that advantage slip and dropped his next service game as well to give Thiem a flattering scoreline.
Set three was evenly matched until the ninth game where Thiem broke the 4-4 deadlock, and then served himself into a semi final.
