Canadian teenager ousts Wozniacki in NZ

The remaining second round ASB Classic matches were played in Auckland yesterday, with one major upset.  Overnight, Australian time, quarter finals were played in Doha and Pune.


AUCKLAND 

WTA second round:

Canadian teenage qualifier Bianca Andreescu defeated top seed Caroline Wozniacki 6-4 6-4

Venus Williams (6) defeated fellow American and wildcard Lauren Davis 6-4 6-3.  Venus will play Bianca Andreescu in the quarter finals 

Venus won her first Grand Slam title a month after Bianca was born.

Wildcard American 17 year old Amanda Anisimova defeated Barbora Strycova (5) 6-3 6-3

Viktoria Kuzmova defeated Sofia Kenin 7-5 5-7 6-3, and will play Amanda Anisimova in a battle of the MOVAs in the quarter finals.


DOHA

ATP Quarter finals:

Novak Djokovic (1), for the second successive match, placed himself in danger, but finally forced himself to defeat Nikoloz Basilashvili (5) 4-6 6-3 6-4

Roberto Bautista Agut (7) defeated Stan Wawrinka 6-4 6-4, and will play Novak Djokovic in the semis 

Marco Cecchinato (4) defeated Dusan Lajovic 7-6(2) 6-2

Wildcard Tomas Berdych defeated Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-2 6-4, and will play Marco Cecchinato in the semis


PUNE 

ATP Quarter finals:

Kevin Anderson (1) defeated Jaume Munar (7) 6-3 6-3

Gilles Simon (3) defeated Benoit Paire (5) 3-6 7-6(4) 6-4, and will play Kevin Anderson in the semis

Steve Darcis defeated Malek Jaziri (4) 7-5 6-2

Ivo Karlovic defeated Ernests Gulbis 7-6(5) 7-6(5), and will play Steve Darcis in the semis 


SHENZHEN 

WTA Quarter finals:

The two quarter finals started were delayed through rain

Qualifier Veronika Kudermetova led wildcard Vera Zvonareva 6-4

Sorana Cirstea led Alison Riske 2-0
