Day 6 of Australian Open 2019, and the final day session match on 1573 Arena was:
Borna Coric (11) (CRO) v Filip Krajinovic (SRB)
Coric served first and held to love. 1-0. Krajinovic saved a break point and held serve on his second game point. 1-1.
With a double fault and three unforced errors, Coric gifted a service break to Krajinovic who led 2-1.
Krajinovic consolidated, mainly due to more unforced errors from the Croation. 3-1. Behind 15-40, Coric was once more in trouble and Krajinovic made it worse by hitting a forehand winner to achieve a double break. 4-1.
Up 40-30, Krajinovic had to save a break point after he endured backhand wars, before ultimately holding for 5-1.
Coric led 40-0, but was dragged back to deuce, and then faced set point, with his forehand falling apart. The set point was saved, and a backhand winner set up game point. Serve held for 2-5.
An ace gave Krajinovic three set points, and he only required one to take it 6-2.
20 unforced errors in the opening set from Coric.
Coric regrouped and held serve in the opening game of set two. Then two Krajinovic double faults presented Coric with three break points. The break came on the third of these, and he was ahead 2-0.
A love game for Coric cemented the break. 3-0. Krajinovic went back to what worked in set one, and attacked the Coric forehand. It worked for four points, enough to hold serve and trail 1-3.
Coric zipped through the next game with a pair of aces and a service winner for 4-1. Krajinovic’s love game, including a backhand winner, brought him closer. 2-4.
Two backhand winners and an ace ensured the break advantage held for Coric and he led 5-2. Krajinovic needed to hold to remain alive in the set.
Krajinovic held for 3-5 and Coric had the chance to serve for the set.
Facing two break back points, Coric fought back to deuce, and then Krajinovic donated two failed backhands and the set went to Coric 6-3.
Games went with serve in the third set for 3-3, and no sign of a break point.
In the seventh game, Krajinovic was down two break points following a Coric backhand winner. Deuce was reached after a Serbian ace, but another Coric backhand created a second break chance which was converted, and the Croatian led 4-3.
A double fault wasn’t the best way to start the next game, but Coric steadied and an ace later in the game brought up game point which was used well, and the lead was extended to 5-3.
Krajinovic held serve, an ace the exclamation mark, but Coric could now serve for the set at 5-4.
Coric began with an ace, and a forehand winner produced two set points. The second one saw a forced Krajinovic forehand error and Coric took a two sets to one advantage - third set 6-4.
Down two break points in the opening game of set four, after three straight Coric winners, Krajinovic brought it back to deuce, but a Coric backhand created another break chance and this one worked. 1-0 Croatia.
A forehand winner and ace put Coric up 40-15 in the next game.
Three unforced errors and break point. An ace and Coric forehand winner produced game point. An unforced Coric error and double fault and another break chance.
Three straight winners from Coric in the most up and down game, saw him finally hold serve for 2-0.
Krajinovic dropped serve again, an unforced error on the second of two break points. 0-3. Despite two double faults, Coric held and increased his lead to 4-0.
Krajinovic, with a couple of aces, at last hit the scoreboard 1-4.
Coric moved to 5-1, an ace and winning forehand included.
Three Serbian aces and Krajinovic made it 2-5.
When serving for the match Coric was broken on the second chance, with a failed backhand. He still led 5-3 with a break in hand.
Krajinovic was serving at 30-30 when Coric delivered a forehand winner to have match point. A forced Krajinovic backhand error was the final point and Borna Coric won the match 2-6 6-3 6-4 6-3.
