Fils wins title in Hamburg

Final day in Hamburg.

2024 Hamburg Open, an ATP 500 tournament, on Clay, Hamburg, Germany, 15-21 July 2024

Defending champion:
Alexander Zverev (4) who defeated Laslo Djere 7-5 6-3

Final:

Alexander Zverev (1) (Germany) v Arthur Fils (5) (France)

Zverev won both previous matches between the players:
Most recently - 2024 Halle quarter finals.

Fils broke serve in the second game of the match to lead 2-0.
He saved four break points in game five before holding for 4-1.

Zverev saved a break point in the sixth game and held for 2-4.
Fils saved three break points in game seven then held for 5-2.

Serving for the set at 5-3, Fils saved two break points.
He proceeded to win the set 6-3.

Fils saved four break points in game four of set two.
Zverev saved a break point in game five.
Both held serve and Zverev led 3-2.

In game six, Fils saved three break points, but couldn’t save a fourth.
Zverev broke to lead 4-2.

Serving at 2-5 to stay in the set, Fils held.

Zverev served out the set 6-3.

Fils saved a break point in game one of the decider, and held for 1-0.
He saved two more break points in the fifth game and held for 3-2.

Fils saved a break point in the ninth game and held for 5-4.
Zverev served to stay in the match, and held for 5-5.

Fils saved a break point in the eleventh game and held for 6-5.
Zverev held serve in the next game and forced a tie break.

Arthur Fils won the tie break and the match 6-3 3-6 7-6(1).

Title number two, and first since his breakthrough win in Lyon - May 2023.
