Alcaraz wins 1st Roland Garros title

Alexander Zverev (4) (Germany) v Carlos Alcaraz (3) (Spain)

Zverev won five of the nine previous contests between the players.
Zverev won an Australian Open quarter final against Alcaraz this year.
Alcaraz won an Indian Wells quarter final against Zverev also this year.

The players exchanged breaks of serve in the first two games of set one.
Alcaraz broke Zverev to love in game five and led 3-2.

Zverev saved two break points in game seven to avoid going down a double break.
Serving at 3-5 to stay in the set, Zverev was broken again and Alcaraz won the set 6-3.

Alcaraz survived six deuces and saved three break points in the opening game of set two.
He held serve.
Zverev broke the Alcaraz serve in games five and seven to lead 5-2.

Zverev served out the set 6-2.

No break points faced in set three until the sixth game where Alcaraz broke Zverev to love.
He led 4-2.

Alcaraz saved three break points in the following game before consolidating at 5-2.

Serving at 5-3 for the set, Alcaraz was broken and his lead shortened to 5-4.
Zverev broke in the eleventh game for a 6-5 lead.
Serving for the set, Zverev saved a.break point before eventually taking the set 7-5.

Alcaraz broke Zverev in games two and four of set four.
Zverev retrieved one of the breaks in game five to trail 1-4.

Alcaraz broke again to lead 5-1.
Serving for the set, Alcaraz saved three break points before holding and taking the set 6-1.

Alcaraz broke in the third game of the decider.
He saved four break points in the following game before holding serve and leading 3-1.
Break points were saved in the next two games and serve held each time.

Alcaraz broke to love in the seventh game to lead 5-2.

The Spaniard served out the match 6-3 2-6 5-7 6-1 6-2

Carlos Alcaraz won his third Grand Slam tournament title, and first on the clay of Roland Garros.
