Haase knocks Zverev out of Cincinnati

Rain disturbed much of Wednesday in Cincinnati, but not before the departure of Sascha Zverev (3), victim of Robin Haase in a second round upset 5-7 6-4 7-5.

Haase continued his form from Toronto where he made the quarter finals, and now has a 2-2 head to head record against Zverev.

His returning and variety of shot making proved vital in the final analysis, and the young German left the tournament main draw still winless after four attempts from the past four years.

Dominic Thiem had joined Nadal as a late tournament withdrawal and the eighth seed was replaced in the main draw by a lucky loser who was granted the first round bye originally owned by Thiem.
