Popyrin wins Canadian Masters title

Final day in Montreal.

2024 National Bank Open presented by Rogers, an ATP Masters 1000 tournament, on Hard Outdoor, Montreal, Canada, 6-12 August 2024

Defending champion:
Jannik Sinner (7) who defeated Alex de Minaur 6-4 6-1

Final:

Andrey Rublev (5) (Russia) v Alexei Popyrin (Australia)

Of the two previous matches between the players, one was won by each.
The more recent was Popyrin winning a second round in Monte Carlo, April 2024,

Popyrin broke serve in the opening game of the match.
He saved two break points in the fourth game, and held for 3-1.

Rublev was broken in the fifth game and trailed 1-4.
Popyrin saved two break points in the sixth game and held for 5-1.

Rublev saved a set point in game seven and held for 2-5.

Popyrin served out the set 6-2.

Popyrin broke serve in the opening game of set two.
Rublev saved a break point in game five and held for 2-3.

Rublev broke back in game six, leveling at 3-3.
Popyrin broke in the following game and led 4-3.

Rublev served at 3-5 to stay in the match 
He held for 4-5.

Alexei Popyrin served out the match 6-2 6-4.

Title number three for Popyrin, and first at ATP Masters level.
