Simona Halep (1) defeated Irina-Camelia Begu 7-6(2) 6-3
Elise Mertens (3) defeated Kristyna Pliskova 7-5 7-6(4) and will play Simona Halep in the final.
Halep and Mertens have met four times previously, with Halep leading 3-1. Two of those matches have been at Grand Slam level, including a round of sixteen victory for Halep at this years Australian Open.
However, the only final which the two have contested was won by Mertens in Doha in 2019, also the only encounter which has lasted three sets.
This will be Simona Halep’s 38th final, and should she win, it will be her 21st title, adding to her Dubai success from February this year.
For Elise Mertens, it is final number 7, and a win will be her sixth, and the first title since that Doha match with Halep in February 2019.
