WTA - Ferro wins Palermo

The WTA final was decided in Palermo, Italy.

2020 Palermo Ladies Open a WTA international tournament, on Red Clay, in Palermo, Italy, 3-9 August 2020.

Defending champion:

Jil Teichmann (8) who defeated Kiki Bertens (1) 7-6(3) 6-2


Final result:

- Fiona Ferro (France) defeated Anett Kontaveit (Estonia) 6-2 7-5


After comfortably taking the opening set, converting both break opportunities, and winning 71% of points on her second serve, Ferro missed chances at 3-3 in set two, instead falling behind a break in the following game. However, Kontaveit couldn’t serve out the set, and Ferro won the last four games of the match to lift the trophy, her second on the WTA Tour.

Kontaveit now has been a runner-up five times in her 6 final appearances.


Fiona Ferro moves up 9 places to a career high of #44, passing Caroline Garcia to become the #2 French player in the WTA rankings. (just two behind Kristina Mladenovic)
