Wuhan first round complete

The first round was completed in Wuhan and four seeds departed the scene.

Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open - a WTA Premier 5 category tournament, on Hard Deco Turf, in Wuhan, China, 22-28 September 2019.

Defending champion:

Aryna Sabalenka who defeated Anett Kontaveit 6-3 6-3


The following players withdrew after the main draw was published:

- Madison Keys (12) replaced by lucky loser Rebecca Peterson 

Peterson takes the position Keys had in the draw which means that the round of sixteen match up for Belinda Bencic (7) will now be an unseeded opponent. (should she win through)

- Victoria Azarenka replaced by lucky loser Ons Jabeur 

- Karolina Muchova replaced by lucky loser Tamara Zidansek
