Sabalenka led Pegula 6-2 head to head in previous matches between the players.
Sabalenka broke serve in game two of the opening set.
Pegula broke back in game three.
She broke again in game five to lead 3-2.
Sabalenka broke serve in the following game to level at 3-3.
Pegula was broken in game eight and trailed 3-5.
Sabalenka served for the set but was broken.
Pegula served at 4-5 to stay in the set.
She held and levelled at 5-5.
Pegula served at 5-6, again to stay in the set, but was broken.
Sabalenka took the set 7-5.
