Andreeva wins Indian Wells title

Final day in Indian Wells.

2025 BNP Paribas Open, a WTA 1000 tournament, on Hard Outdoor, Indian Wells, California, USA, 5-16 March 2025.

Defending champion:
Iga Swiatek (1) who defeated Maria Sakkari (9) 6-4 6-0

Final:

Aryna Sabalenka (1) (Belarus) v Mirra Andreeva (9) (Russia)

Sabalenka won four of the five previous matches between the players.
This included the two most recent which were this year:
Semi final in Brisbane and round of 16 in the Australian Open.

Sabalenka saved four break points in game three of set one.
She held for 2-1.
In the following game Andreeva was broken.

Serving at 2-5 to stay in the set, Andreeva was broken again.

Sabalenka took the set 6-2.

Sabalenka saved three break points in the opening game of set two.
She held for 1-0.

Andreeva broke in the third game to lead 2-1.
She saved two break points in game six before holding for 4-2.

Sabalenka served at 3-5 to stay in the set.
She saved a set point and held.

Andreeva served out the set 6-4.

Sabalenka was broken to love in the opening game of the decider.
Sabalenka broke back immediately for 1-1.

A third successive break saw Andreeva lead 2-1.

Sabalenka served at 3-5 to stay in the match.

Mirra Andreeva broke to end the match, winning 2-6 6-4 6-3.

At just 17, this was her third title.
Two this year - both WTA 1000 level, here and last month in Dubai.

To win here in Indian Wells, Mirra had to defeat world number two and defending champion Iga Swiatek in the semis, and world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the final.

She will now be number six in the rankings, a career high.
