Top seed, Bianca Andreescu, withdrew after the draw was published, preferring to focus on additional training for the Australian Open.
She was replaced by alternate Oksana Kalashnikova.
Number five seed, Maria Sakkari, took the place of Andreescu at the top of the draw, now receiving the first round bye originally given to Andreescu, and Alison Riske was instated as ninth seed.
Subsequently, Riske withdrew and was replaced by alternate Ellen Perez.
