It was close, 7-5, but set two was a surprise, Kubler actually levelling the match with a 6-4 set win.
Belinda Bencic was a break up on Venus Williams 4-3 with serve to come in the first set.

After a short rain break, Kubler held serve to lead 2-1 in the third set and took Carreno Busta to deuce.
Two clean winners brought up break point for the Aussie and he took the chance for a 3-1 lead.
The tenth seed was showing frustration, but a double fault left Kubler at 30-30. A lovely Australian backhand and a Spanish error saw the scoreboard tick over to 4-1.
Meanwhile Bencic took the first set from Venus Williams 6-3.
And Dominika Cibulkova (24) lost her opening set to Kaia Kanepi 6-2.
Pablo held serve and Kubler’s lead was cut to 4-2 - serious pressure was put on the Queenslander’s serve, Pablo using the second of two break chances to bring the set back to 3-4 with Spanish delivery next.
Having drawn level, Pablo failed to seize on a double fault from Kubler and the Aussie led 5-4, and teasingly just a game away from a two sets to one lead.
An ace from the Spaniard silenced a previous point from Kubler full of great shots.
A wicked Queensland backhand took it to deuce.
Pablo closed it out with big serves and 5-5.
After saving a few break points, Kubler fell to the Pablo pressure and trailed 5-6. The tenth seed would serve for the set.
The set was taken with an easy hold and Pablo led 7-5 4-6 7-5.

Well it took Belinda to break the Williams serve to win 6-3 7-5, the only sets she has ever taken off the 2017 finalist.
