Muguruza is already a dual Grand Slam winner and if successful here, she would be only one leg away from a career Grand Slam.
The two haven’t met on tour in a WTA match so this could be interesting to watch.
Su-Wei made the semi finals in Auckland earlier in 2018 and lost to eventual winner Julia Goerges.
Su-Wei served first and began with a forehand winner.
A double fault and errors donated the early break to Muguruza.
Straight away Muguruza was broken back for 1-1.
Hsieh survived a break point and led 2-1,
Muguruza couldn’t survive break points and started very poorly 1-3.
More heroics from the Chinese Tapei player, ranked 82, and she led 4-1.
Backhand and forehand winners too much for the third seed.
Better tennis from the Spaniard and she held for 2-4
A love game and Su-Wei led 5-2 - meanwhile Garbine asked for the trainer, complaining about a blister.
Garbine held and Su-Wei served for the set.
However the third seed denied Su-Wei when it mattered and the score came to 5-5.
Su-Wei remained determined and kept striking the ball well, surviving three deuces to lead 6-5.
A set point was negotiated successfully by Muguruza and a tie break eventuated.
4-0 to Hsieh and the set not far away. A double fault and 5-1
6-1 and five set points.
Only one needed and Hsieh a set up 7-6(1).

Garbine surrendered her serve to trail 2-1 second set.
Another poor forehand from Muguruza confirmed a consolidation of the Hsieh break and 3-1.
Su-Wei broke again and served for the match at 5-2.
Muguruza retrieved one of the breaks thanks to a series of backhand errors from Hsieh and it was 3-5.
Garbine was just hanging on but a double fault brought up match point -saved in fine style set up with a great forehand.
Game to the third seed and 4-5.
Even so Su-Wei had a second chance to close the match out.
Two match points to Hsieh - only one required and yet another upset as the third seed exits.
Next for Hseih is Aga Radwanska.
