Pegula wins US Open final berth

Semi final 2:

Jessica Pegula (6) v Karolina Muchova

Pegula won the only previous meeting between the players:

Second round 2024 WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open.

First time semi final for Pegula at Grand Slam level.

Muchova saved three break points in game three of set one and held serve.

She broke the Pegula serve in the following game and led 3-1.

Muchova broke again in game six to lead 5-1.

She served out the set 6-1..

The momentum continued when Muchova broke serve in the opening game of set two.

Pegula saved a break point in game three and held for 1-2.

She broke in the following game and levelled at 2-2.

Pegula saved a break point in game five and held for 3-2.

Breaks were exchanged in games six and seven and Pegula led 4-3.

Muchova served at 4-5 to stay in the set but was broken, and Pegula took the set 6-4.

Pegula broke serve in game two of the decider to lead 2-0.

She saved a break point in the following game and held for 3-0.

Pegula saved a break point in game five and held for 4-1.

She also saved a break point in game seven and held for 5-2.

Muchova served to stay in the match and was broken.

Jessica Pegula won the match 1-6 6-4 6-2, and became a US Open finalist.
