Quarter final day in Morocco.
Grand Prix Hassan II - an ATP 250 category tournament, on Red Clay, in Marrakech, Morocco , 8-14 April 2019.
Defending champion:
Pablo Andújar who defeated Kyle Edmund (2) 6-2 6-2
- Jaume Munar v Benoit Paire
Munar had come off a huge upset win over top seed and world #3 Alexander Zverev, and must have been confident of doing well against Frenchman Paire, but the only time they had met before was in Barcelona in 2015 where Paire had won in straight sets.
Munar served first, and was broken on the second chance. Paire consolidated the break, surrendering just the one point, and continued with aggressive play to put Munar to the sword.
Paire won half of the points when Munar’s first serve landed, and seven of the nine points when the second serve was in play. The Spaniard was all at sea and was broken twice more in set one, Paire ahead 6-1.
Set two was more competitive, with Munar holding to love in his opening service game. However, game four saw him slip to 15-40. One break point was saved, but not the next, and that was the only dropped serve for the set. Munar saved a match point in the eighth game, but Paire served it out to love, winning 6-1 6-3.
- Wildcard Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated qualifier Lorenzo Sonego 6-3 6-2
- Gilles Simon (4), 2008 champion, defeated Taro Daniel 6-4 7-5
- Pablo Andújar, reigning champion, and also 2011-2012 titlist, was handed a walkover by Jiri Vesely who suffered a toe injury.
