Fognini wins Monte Carlo - Barcelona next

Two ATP tournaments follow the events in Monaco the last week.

Before detailing those, the victory of Fabio Fognini should be celebrated. He defeated Dusan Lajovic 6-3 6-4 in the final of the Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo. It was a memorable week for both players and has been reflected in the world rankings. Fognini moves up six spots to #12, a new career high, previously #13. Lajovic rises 24 places to #24, also a new career high, previously #42.

Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell - an ATP 500 category tournament, on Red Clay, in Barcelona, Spain, 22-28 April 2019.

Defending champion:

Rafa Nadal (1) who defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2 6-1


Alex de Minaur withdrew after entering but before the main draw was published.

He was replaced by Mischa Zverev.

 

Hyeon Chung withdrew after the main draw was published, because of a back injury.

He was replaced by lucky loser Nicolás Jarry.


Rafa Nadal, world number 2, is top seed.

14 of the other 15 seeds are in the top 32

The top 16 seeds have first round byes.

Defending champion:

Lucky loser Marco Cecchinato who defeated John Millman 7-5 6-4


Adrian Mannarino withdrew after the main draw was published, because of an ankle injury.

He was replaced by lucky loser Sergiy Stakhovsky.


Marin Cilic, world number 11, is top seed.

The other 7 seeds are in the top 44, three in the top 20.

The top 4 seeds have first round byes
