Quarter final day in the Rolex Paris Masters:
- Karen Khachanov defeated Sascha Zverev (4)
This was the second successive seed that the Russian has knocked out of Paris, following his defeat of John Isner (8) in their epic round of sixteen encounter.
Zverev won a pitiful 38% of points on serve in set one, which Khachanov won 6-1, breaking the German four times.
Set two was not much better, Khachanov not facing a break point, and Zverev losing eight of ten points on his second delivery.
6-1 6-2 was a slashing, unexpected by Zverev, and most pundits.
- Dominic Thiem (6) defeated Jack Sock (16)
Sock broke the Thiem serve early in set one, and although Thiem managed to achieve a break of his own, Sock was able to punish the Austrian’s second serve, leading to a second crack of the Thiem delivery and a 6-4 lead. The question was could the American win three successive matches, as he hadn’t won twice in succession all year until this tournament.
Thiem threw that into doubt, immediately going ahead by a break in set two, and maintaining that advantage throughout to level at 4-6 6-4.
The decider was similar to the second set, with Thiem having a better first serve percentage, and winning more points off his serve than Sock.
Only one service dropped for the set, and it was Sock’s.
Dominic Thiem won 4-6 6-4 6-4 to advance to a semi final against Karen Khachanov.
