While the Davis Cup semi finals were being decided, champions in the 2 WTA tournaments this week were determined.
Quebec City:
Semi finals
- Pauline Parmentier (8) defeated Heather Watson 5-7 6-3 7-6(5) in a 155 minute battle.
Parmentier captured her third WTA title in Istanbul in April this year - her first in ten years.
- Qualifier Jessica Pegula defeated fellow American Sofia Kenin (5) 4-6 6-2 6-4
This is Jessica’s first WTA final. Her highest ranking has been 123 (in 2013) and she will move from 227 back to around 140 thanks to making the final - career high should she take the title.
Final
- Pauline Parmentier (8) defeated qualifier Jessica Pegula 7-5 6-2, and became a dual title winner in 2018, lifting the Coupe Banque Nationale trophy in Canada. Pauline moves back into the top 50 with this win.
Hiroshima:
Final
- Su-Wei Hsieh (2) defeated qualifier Amanda Anisimova 6-2 6-2
This was WTA title number three, from three final appearances, for the Taipei number one, six years on from #2. Su-Wei Hsieh is now, behind the Williams sisters, the oldest player in the top 30.
