Day Eight of Wimbledon 2018 was Ladies Quarter Final Day, and first up on Centre Court was the clash between Dominika Cibulková and Jelena Ostapenko (12), neither of whom had dropped a set in their four matches so far.
Ostapenko began well, having three break points on the Cibulková serve. All were saved, but a netted shot created another chance for Ostapenko. Also saved. A double fault raised a fifth break chance. Saved. A forehand return winner and a sixth break point. Finally converted and Ostapenko led 1-0

Cibulková was down 15-30 but served strongly to lead 2-1.
Despite a forehand winner, Ostapenko’s double fault didn’t help, and she dropped serve to trail 1-3.
An Ostapenko backhand return winner, a Cibulková forehand drive and a forehand winner from Ostapenko were highlights as the next game was taken to deuce. Another excellent return winner from Ostapenko brought up break point. A great drop shot sealed the break and games were back on serve - Cibulková led 3-2
Two winners from Ostapenko helped her level at 3-3.
Return winner from Ostapenko and 15-15. Forehand winner from the same racquet and 30-30. Backhand winner from Cibulková and she eventually held for 4-3.
From 15-30 Ostapenko recovered to hold and 4-4.
Good touch at the net, plus an ace, and Cibulková had 40-0. She converted the second game point to lead 5-4.
Two more winners from Ostapenko and she made it 5-5.
A return winner from Ostapenko, then a Cibulková double fault - 0-30 backhand winner from Ostapenko and three break points. Converted on the first with another clean winner - Ostapenko 6-5
Serving for the opening set, Ostapenko won the first two points. An ace brought up three set points. Another ace for the set 7-5. Ostapenko won the last nine points of set one.
Disappointed after losing the first set, Cibulková raced to 40-0 in the opening game of set two, but another Ostapenko winner plus a double fault and it was 40-30. Serve was held and Cibulková led 1-0

Successive stunning backhands from Ostapenko and two break points. Converted and the twelfth seed led 3-2
Errors from Cibulková and Ostapenko had 40-15. She made ground to a drop shot and hit the winner to lead 4-2
Cibulková under pressure at 0-30. Good serve 15-30. Same again 30-30. Excellent service hold and Cibulková hanging in there 3-4.
Love game from Ostapenko 5-3. 31 winners she had hit so far.
Double fault and Cibulková 0-15. Forehand way out of court 15-30. Eventually deuce. Game point after an Ostapenko return missed the mark.
Service held and Ostapenko led 5-4, with the chance to serve for the match.
Two Cibulková errors 30-0. An off forehand winner from Ostapenko and three match points. A backhand down the line winner clinched the victory for Jelena Ostapenko who played a wonderful match. 7-5 6-4.
Dominika Cibulková had a great tournament and was just overwhelmed by Jelena who hit 33 winners and returned serve so well.
Semi final time now for Jelena Ostapenko and it will be against Angie Kerber (11) who defeated Daria Kasatkina (14) 6-3 7-5
