Vienna - Rublev’s 5th title this year

Final decided in Vienna.

2020 Erste Bank Open an ATP 500 tournament, on Hard, Indoor (Rebound), in Vienna, Austria, 26 October-1 November 2020.
Defending champion:

Dominic Thiem (1) who defeated Diego Schwartzman (5) 3-6 6-4 6-3

Final:

- Lucky loser Lorenzo Sonego (Italy) v Andrey Rublev (5) (Russia)

The pair had met just once before, in a 2016 challenger in Cortina, where Rublev prevailed.

Four years on, Rublev was ruthless on serve in the opening set, surrendering just one point in his first four service games.

Sonego didn’t present much for the Russian to exploit, but in the fifth game he slipped, and Rublev converted the only break point on offer in the first nine games.

Serving for the set at 5-4, Rublev finally felt some pressure, and at 15-40, he produced what was required, winning four straight points and the set 6-4.

Eight games flew by in set two without a break opportunity, and it was Rublev again who bucked the trend. Sonego trailed 0-40 in the ninth game and could only save one of the three break points he faced.

Rublev served out the match 6-4 6-4, claiming his fifth title for 2020, the most of any player.
