Apparently some of the male tennis players feel so affected by being placed in quarantine that their AO matches should be shortened to best of three sets.
This has had the expected reaction but also raised the issue of equal prize money at Grand Slam tournaments.
The argument that more prize money should be offered to men because they are potentially longer on court is one with which I disagree. Just because the poor things can’t resolve a dispute in as quick a time as the women shouldn’t allow them a greater share of the pie, but all jokes aside, all Grand Slam prize money is grossly beyond any sense of decency.
Therefore any debate over how much more or less should be added or subtracted from an obscene total is purely academic, and to be honest not worth having.
The top players are all over paid, end of story.
P.S. If the men have their way and matches are best of three at the AO, then I suggest reduce prize money accordingly, or better still, make them collect the balls and give the ball kids a rest.
