As Ana Ivanovic seeks a return to her heady, if short, days at the top of women's tennis, she takes advice from a number of valuable sources. One of these is boyfriend and top ten golfer Adam Scott. His comeback to the elite in golf has been on the back of the change to a long handle putter and he suggested to Ana that she employ a similarly extended tennis racquet.
The experiment failed because even equipped with the longer handle racquet Ana three putted just as many greens as before.
So conventional racquet in toe, the tall Serbian athlete strode onto Hisense Arena her mission should she accept, to eliminate danger woman Michaella Krajicek from the Netherlands - actually eliminate her from Melbourne, her GPS had her position somewhere near the Yarra River.
Ivanovic opened with her big serve and forehand combo working well and causing Krajicek to defend on a large percentage of the points. She held firm until the pressure on the dam wall eventually caused it to burst, spewing forth a break of serve that later was joined by another and the set was taken decisively by a very impressive Serbian player. 6-2
The second set proved a more even contest in terms of points contested, but the scoreboard translation did not do any favours for Michaella. The vital points were won by Ivanovic and once she had locked away the break, no way back magically appeared, and the remaining games were decided in entertaining style, but with the result clear.
Ana Ivanovic broke Michaella's final serve to take the match and earn a third round berth 6-2 6-3. Adam would be proud.
