Felix led Hurkacz 2-1 in head to head standings before the final
However, Hurkacz won the most recent match - Halle quarter final in 2022.

In this final Hurkacz saved a break point in game four of set one before holding.
No other break opportunities and a tie break occurred.

Felix won the first point against serve to lead 4-3.
Hurkacz served at 3-6 and lost the point, handing the set to Felix 7-6(3).

Hurkacz saved two break points in game nine of set two before holding.
He again saved two break points in game eleven before holding to lead 6-5.
Felix forced a second tie break.

At 4-5 Felix won both points on his serve.
Hurkacz served at 5-6 to stay in the match but lost the point.

Felix Auger-Aliassime won the day, successfully defending his title 7-6(3) 7-6(5).
Title number five for the Canadian and first since this one last year.

Sinner wins title in Vienna

Final:

Daniil Medvedev (1) (Russia) v Jannik Sinner (2) (Italy)

Medvedev led Sinner 6-1 in head to head standings before the final
However, Sinner won the most recent match - Beijing final earlier this month.

In this final, the pair exchanged service breaks in games four and five of set one.

Serving at 5-6, Sinner saved a set point before holding and forcing a tie break.
Medvedev had the early edge at 4-1, but Sinner brought it back and things were level at 4-4.
No more points were lost on serve until Medvedev was at the line down 7-8.
Sinner took the point and the set 7-6(7).

In set two, Sinner saved three break points in the third game before holding.
He wasn’t as fortunate in his next two service games, broken both times to trail 2-5.

Medvedev surrendered one of the breaks but still led 5-3, and eventually served out the set 6-4.

Medvedev saved three break points in game two of the decider before holding.
Game four saw thirteen deuces, and Medvedev saved eight break points.
He finally relented on a ninth, and Sinner broke for 3-1.

The next two games were service breaks and Sinner retained his edge 4-2.

Serving at 2-5 to stay in the match, Medvedev led 40-0.
Sinner won the next four points to land at match point.
Medvedev saved it and eventually held on for 3-5.

Serving for the match Sinner saved two break points before finishing the job 7-6(7) 4-6 6-3.

Title number ten for Sinner, fourth this year.
Two wins over Medvedev in finals this month.

Haddad Maia wins WTA Elite Trophy

First meeting between the players.

Zheng Qinwen saved a break point in the second game of set one before holding serve.
Haddad Maia was broken in the fifth game and trailed 2-3.
Zheng Qinwen saved two break points in the next game and held to consolidate for 4-2.

Haddad Maia broke back in the eighth game to level at 4-4.
No more break chances and a tie break was required. 

Haddad Maia served for the set at 6-5 but lost the point.
Zheng Qinwen served for the set at 7-6 but lost the point.
Haddad Maia served for the set at 10-9 but lost the point.
Zheng Qinwen served for the set at 11-10 but lost the point.

At 11-11, Zheng Qinwen lost the point on her serve.
Haddad Maia served out the set 7-6(11).

Haddad Maia broke serve in game three of set two to lead 2-1.
Zheng Qinwen broke back in game six to level at 3-3.

Haddad Maia broke again next game for 4-3, but Zheng Qinwen levelled in the tenth game 5-5.

A second tie break occurred.

With an early mini break Zheng Qinwen led 2-1 with two serves to come.
However, Haddad Maia won both of those points and controlled the remainder of the tie break.
At 6-3 the Brazilian had three match points.

Zheng Qinwen saved one, but not the next, and the match was over.

Beatriz Haddad Maia won 7-6(11) 7-6(4) to claim her third title, the first since Birmingham in June 2022

2023 WTA Elite Trophy

The WTA tour continues in China.

2023 Huafa Technology WTA Elite Trophya WTA invitation only tournament, on Hard Outdoor, Zhuhai, China, 24-29 October 2023.

Tournament last held in 2019. 
2020, 2021 cancelled due to COVID.
2022 cancelled due to concerns for Peng Shuai 

2019 champion (not defending):
Aryna Sabalenka (4) who defeated Kiki Bertens (1) 6-4 6-2

The field consists of the top 11 players not already qualified for the 2023 WTA Finals, plus a wildcard.
If a wildcard is not confirmed in time, then the next player not already qualified for the WTA Finals will be included.
The final two alternates for the 2023 WTA Finals are also eligible to play in the WTA Elite Trophy (if required) even if they ultimately participate in the WTA Finals.

The 12 players are split into four groups of three and begin with a round robin event over the first four days of competition.
Each player meets the other two players in her group with the winner in each group advancing to the semi finals. The winners of each semi final meet in the championship match.

Mertens wins 2nd Jasmin Open

Final day in Monastir.

2023 Jasmin Open Monastira WTA 250 tournament, on Hard Outdoor, Monastir, Tunisia, 16-22 October 2023.

Defending champion:
Elise Mertens (5) who defeated wildcard Alizé Cornet (3) 6-2 6-0

Final:

Jasmine Paolini (1) (Italy) v Elise Mertens (2) (Belgium)

Mertens won three of the four previous matches between the players.
Th most recent contest saw Mertens win first round in Doha, February 2022.

Mertens saved three break points in game two of set one, then broke Paolini in the following game to lead 2-1.
Paolini broke back immediately for 2-2.

Mertens broke again in the seventh game and led 4-3.
Serving at 3-5 to stay in the set, Paolini was broken for a third time and Mertens took the set 6-3.

Mertens saved two break points in the opening game of set two before holding serve.
That started a run, including two breaks of the Paolini serve, leaving Mertens ahead 5-0.

Down 0-5 and 0-40 Paolini saved three match points.
She couldn’t save a fourth, and the match was over.

Elise Mertens won 6-3 6-0 to successfully defend her title.
She now has eight career titles.

Monfils wins title in Stockholm

Final day in Stockholm.

2023 BNP Paribas Nordic Openan ATP 250 tournament, on Hard Indoor, Stockholm, Sweden, 16-22 October 2023.

Defending champion:
Holger Rune (7) who defeated wildcard Stefanos Tsitsipas (1) 6-4 6-4

Final:

Qualifier Pavel Kotov (Russia) v Gael Monfils (France)

First meeting between the players 
First final for Kotov 

In game three of set one Kotov broke to lead 2-1.
He broke Monfils again in the seventh game for 5-2.

Serving for the set, Kotov couldn’t convert three set points and he was eventually broken.
Serving at 5-4, a second timefor the set, Kotov succeeded and was ahead 6-4.

For ten games in set two, neither player was even taken to deuce, let alone faced a break point.
Game eleven saw Monfils having to save three break points and a tie break was ultimately required.

At 4-6, Kotov saved two set points, but serving at 6-7, he lost the point, and Monfils took the set 7-6(6).

Monfils broke Kotov in the opening game of the decider.
Kotov saved three break points in the fifth game to avoid going down a double break.

Monfils broke again in game seven to lead 5-2.
He couldn’t serve out the match, broken but still ahead 5-3.

Serving to stay in the match, Kotov was broken and Monfils was victorious.

Gaël Monfils won 4-6 7-6(6) 6-3.

Title number twelve for Monfils and first since Adelaide - January 2022.

Korpatsch 1st title in Cluj-Napoca

Final day in Cluj-Napoca.

2023 Transylvania Opena WTA 250 tournament, on Hard Indoor, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, 16-22 October 2023.

2022 champion (not defending):
Qualifier Anna Blinkova who defeated Jasmine Paolini 6-2 3-6 6-2

Final:

Tamara Korpatsch (Germany) v Elena-Gabriela Ruse (Romania)

Ruse won the two previous contests between the players, most recent being a qualifying match in Prague 2020.
First final for Korpatsch at WTA Tour level.

In the final, Ruse broke Korpatsch twice to lead 3-0 in the opening set.
Korpatsch struck back by breaking Ruse three successive times and leading 5-3.

Korpatsch saved a break point before sealing the set 6-3.

In set two serve was held for two games but then there were three straight breaks.
This left Korpatsch ahead 3-2.
The advantage was stretched when Ruse was broken again in the seventh game.

Serving for the match at 5-2, Korpatsch was broken.
Given another chance to serve for it at 5-4, Korpatsch was successful and the match was hers 6-3 6-4.

First title in first final.
Back in top 100 to a career high ranking of #70.
