Felix wins title in Basel

Final day in Basel.

2022 Swiss Indoors Basel, an ATP 500 tournament, on Hard Indoor, in Basel, Switzerland, 24-30 October 2022.
Not held in 2020-2021 due to COVID

2019 champion (not defending):
Roger Federer (1) who defeated wildcard Alex de Minaur 6-2 6-2

Final:

Felix Auger-Aliassime (3) (Canada) v Holger Rune (Denmark)

The final would be the first ATP contest between the players.

In set one, the only break chance came in the fourth game, and Felix converted for a 3-1 advantage.

This edge was held until he served out the set 6-3. His last two service games were to love.

In set two, Felix saved a break point in game two, and two more in game eight.
No breaks of serve through ten games.

Serving at 5-5, Rune saved three break points, but Felix converted a fourth, and led 6-5.

Felix served out the match 6-3 7-5, to claim his third title in as many starts.

Medvedev triumphs in Vienna

Final day in Vienna.

Final:

Daniil Medvedev (1) v Denis Shapovalov (Canada)

Medvedev led Shapovalov 3-2 in their head to head before the final, the last three going to Medvedev.
The most recent win was in the round of sixteen at Cincinnati this year.

In set one, Shapovalov saved a break point in game two, then broke Medvedev in the following game.
The pair exchanged service breaks in games five and six, leaving the Canadian ahead 4-2.

No further breaks in the set, and Shapovalov served it out 6-4.

In set two, Medvedev saved a break point in the third game, then broke for a 3-1 lead.
He saved four break points in a six deuce game before consolidating at 4-1.

Shapovalov broke back in the seventh game, but Medvedev won the final two games of the set to level at 4-6 6-3.

Medvedev broke Shapovalov to love in the third game of the decider.
He consolidated for 3-1.

Shapovalov was broken again in the fifth game.
He served at 1-5 to stay in the match, and saved three match points, eventually holding for 2-5.

Medvedev raced to 40-0 and had three match points.
Shapovalov fought off all three, but Medvedev won with his fourth to claim the title 4-6 6-3 6-2.

Title number fifteen, and second for 2022.

Pegula wins Guadalajara Open

Final day in Guadalajara.
Including completion of unfinished semi final 

2022 Guadalajara Open Akron, a WTA 1000 tournament, on Hard, in Guadalajara, Mexico, 17-23 October 2022.

This is a new tournament on the WTA Tour calendar.

Semi final result:

Maria Sakkari (4) defeated Marie Bouzkova 7-5 6-4 after play resumed from previous day.

Final:

Jessica Pegula (3) (USA) v Maria Sakkari (4) (Greece)

The record between the players before the final had Sakkari ahead 3-1.
The pair were 1-1 this year, Sakkari winning in Doha and Pegula at the Australian Open.

In the final, Pegula dominated the opening set, not facing a break point on her own serve.
The American broke Sakkari in both the fifth and seventh games, and served out the set 6-2.

Sakkari saved three break points in game three of set two, but not a fourth, and Pegula led 2-1.
Pegula broke again in the seventh game and led 5-2.

Serving for the match, Pegula was broken for the only time in the match.
However, it was just a temporary glitch, as she broke Sakkari to love in the following game to finish things.

Jessica Pegula won 6-2 6-3 to claim her second title from five finals, and first at WTA 1000 level.

Sebastian Korda (USA) v Felix Aliassime (2) (Canada)

The players met twice previously, one win each.
Most recently Korda won a quarter final in Estoril this year.

Felix broke the Korda serve in the sixth game of the opening set, and consolidated with a love game to lead 5-2.
Serving to stay in the set, Korda saved a set point.
However, Felix served the set out 6-3 with a love game.

After saving two break points in the fourth game of set two, Felix broke Korda in the following game.
The Canadian led 3-2.

Felix held the advantage until the finish where he won 6-3 6-4

It was title number three from twelve finals for Felix Auger-Aliassime, and second in a week, following success in Florence.

Musetti wins title in Naples

Final day in Naples.

2022 Tennis Napoli Cup, an ATP 250 tournament, on Hard, in Naples, Italy, 17-23 October 2022.

This was previously an ATP Challenger Tour tournament, and has been upgraded this year to ATP 250 level on the ATP Tour calendar.

2021 champion (not defending):
Tallon Griekspoor (4) who defeated Andrea Pellegrino 6-3 6-2

Final:

Lorenzo Musetti (4) (Italy) v wildcard Matteo Berrettini (2) (Italy)

The two players had never met before in an ATP Tour match.

Break points were faced in four of the first six games of the match, but serve was held each time.
Serve continued to be held and a tie break was required.

Points went with serve until Musetti won the seventh point on the Berrettini serve.
It was enough to see him proceed to take the set 7-6(5)

Musetti kept up the momentum by breaking Berrettini in the opening game of set two.
Berrettini was broken again in the seventh game and Musetti led 5-2.

Lorenzo Musetti prevailed 7-6(5) 6-2 to claim his second title from as many finals.
The other one was in Hamburg in July this year.

Rune wins Stockholm Open

Final day in Stockholm.

2022 Stockholm Open, an ATP 250 tournament, on Hard Indoor, in Stockholm, Sweden, 17-23 October 2022.

Defending champion:
Tommy Paul who defeated Denis Shapovalov (3) 6-4 2-6 6-4

Final:

Wildcard Stefanos Tsitsipas (1) (Greece) v Holger Rune (7) (Denmark)

Rune won the only previous contest between the players - round of sixteen at this year’s Roland Garros.

Tsitsipas was broken in the third game of the match, and neither player was taken to deuce in any other game of the set.
Rune served it out 6-4.

As with the first set, Rune broke Tsitsipas in the third game of set two.
Tsitsipas saved a break point in game five and avoided being behind a double break.
Rune saved a break point in the following game and kept his advantage 4-2.

Rune maintained the edge until the end, serving out the match 6-4 6-4.

This was title number two from three finals, all finals this year, and the other title coming in Munich in April.
